Clinician Questionnaire Form
What plastics can Sterimelt process?
It is designed for uncontaminated clinical sterilisation wrap, drapes and polypropylene patient transfer sheets.
How can we segregate the wraps and drapes?
Needs to be a collaboration of your Operating Theatre/HSDU/CSSD teams to form a simple internal protocol to place clean wrap in a different bag.
If it's placed in orange bags won't it be considered clinical?
Current NHS clients have used clear bags to determine the difference without hinderance.
Do we bundle all the wraps together post op?
No, clean uncontaminated need to be seperate from contaminated wraps and drapes.
What about contamination?
Contaminated wraps should still go as infectious waste. Sterimelt is for the 90% uncontaminated wraps produced pre-op. If some contaminated wrap went into Sterimelt, It would be sterilised due to the temperature it reaches and would not effect recycling.
